Preston Movie Makers Millennium Competition 2006
On Thursday November 2nd, Preston Movie Makers held their Millennium Competition at their clubrooms in Fulwood, Preston. This was to be the seventh year of the competition which has increased in popularity year by year.
The competition involves Preston Movie Makers and five other clubs, Altrincham Video Society, Bolton Movie Makers, Burnley Camcorder Group, Crewe Cine & Video Club, and Rochdale Movie Makers. The rules of the competition are quite simple. Each club is allocated a fifteen minute slot and their entry must consist of two films in any genre, but both films in total must not exceed the fifteen minutes allowed. Each club must appoint a judge and voting takes place to find the best programme. There are no second or third prizes, only a winner. As usual their was stiff competition and the standard of entries was very high.

The Millennium Trophy winner for 2006 was Rochdale Movie Makers with their winning programme, “The Rake”, and “A Man Thing”. Rochdale have not won the competition previously and we are delighted at their success. Well done!.
This year we were very pleased after much hard work to receive the support of BBC Radio Lancashire. They have decided to support the competition each year by offering a trophy which will be awarded to the programme which in their judgement makes the “Best Use of Sound”. Naturally we are delighted that this will now become a regular feature of the competition, and our thanks must go to Garry Scott, at BBC Radio Lancashire, who has worked so hard along with other staff at the station to bring this dream to fruition. On the night, Garry (who is a presenter) came along and judged the “Sound Award”. His comments were very interesting and useful and echoed what many of us sometimes think when viewing amateur movies. That is that we perhaps spend too much time thinking about the visuals and not enough time is devoted to the soundscape. It was very pleasing to see Burnley Camcorder Group be the inaugural winners of this trophy for their entry “Silent Pitch” by Tyronne Bradley. A very worthy winner indeed. Well done!
